Accreditation Status

Programs are accredited by  ARC-PA. “Accreditation-Continuing” is the term used to describe accreditation that is granted when an established program is in compliance with the Standards of Accreditation. "Accreditation-Provisional" is an accreditation status granted for a limited, defined period of time to a new program that has demonstrated its preparedness to initiate a program in accordance with the Standards. "Accreditation-Probation" is a temporary status of accreditation assigned when a program does not meet the Standards and when the capability of the program to provide an acceptable educational experience for its students is threatened. The maximum period of probation is two years. “Accreditation-Administrative Probation” is a temporary status granted when a program has not complied with an administrative requirement, such as failure to pay fees or submit required reports. Once placed on Administrative Probation, a program that fails to comply with administrative requirements in a timely manner, as specified by the ARC-PA, may be scheduled for a focused site visit and/or risk having its accreditation withdrawn. "Developing-Not Accredited" programs are working towards accreditation, but have not yet passed ARC-PA accreditation review. There is no guarantee that the program will be accredited.

Veterans Information

Some programs have created support systems and pathways for veterans to help them more easily transition into civilian life and matriculate into PA school. These include:

  • Scholarships or financial assistance (reduced tuition, in-state tuition).
  • Clinical partnerships with veterans organizations for rotations.
  • Special admissions processes that recognize military service.
  • Faculty who are veterans.
  • Institutional participation in the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges program, a consortium of colleges that recognize the unique needs of veterans in achieving their educational goals. Many of these institutions offer special benefits, such as tuition reduction or credit for experiential learning.

Application Deadline

Many programs are members of CASPA, the central application service for PA programs. Applications to these programs are submitted through the CASPA website. Applications to non-CASPA programs are submitted directly to the individual programs.

There are three kinds of CASPA program deadlines:

  • Submitted. The application must be submitted by the deadline date. Documents don't have to be received by CASPA by the deadline date.
  • Complete. The application must be submitted and all transcripts, payments, and at least two letters of reference must be received by CASPA by the deadline date.
  • Verified. The application must be submitted, complete, and the the GPA calculation must be completed by CASPA by the deadline date.
